General FAQs

Who can use Woohoo?

The short answer is YES. You can happily focus on growing your bubba while using Woohoo products :)

We have purposefully chosen ingredients (including essential oils and bio-retinols) to use in our Woohoo products with pregnancy and conception in mind.

The only product that we advise pregnant ladies about is Black Seed Oil as it is a known emmenagogue (stimulates blood flow in the pelvic area) when used as a food supplement. No one has given any recommendations when it used on the skin, so we always stay conservative and advise against using it.

Please get in touch if you have more questions!!

Yes, bio-retinols are safe to use during pregnancy.

Even though they have similar skin benefits to retinols and retinoids, bio-retinols don't have the same side effects.

Absolutely!!

It's completely safe for your growing children to use Woohoo Natural Deodorants.

You might need to keep an eye on younger kids to make sure they're not using too much though, and don't let them forget to wash under their arms daily so they don't get any build-up of deodorant.

The short answer: Yes, the essential oils we use are all considered safe for use during pregnancy or when trying to conceive.

The long answer:

Many of our products have essential oils because we stay well away from artificial fragrances. When it comes to essential oils there is no clear cut answer about whether or not you should use them during pregnancy.

Our belief is that many are safe at the very low levels that we use them. But some definitely need to be avoided during pregnancy because they're emmenagogues (stimulates blood flow in the pelvic area). These are oils such as clary sage, sweet marjoram, vetiver and juniper.

We do not use any essential oil that is considered a definite 'no no' during pregnancy. The essential oils we do use are at a very low percentages with the total of essential oil being under 1% which it is considered OK when used topically (by some, you'll find lots of conflicting advice on the net). So it is up to you if you are comfortable with this.

Webmd has some more information if you want to dig into the details :)

If you prefer to avoid essential oils entirely, we have lots of essential oil free options in our skin, deodorant and hair ranges. Click here for our Essential Oil Free products.

We get asked quite often about caring for young skin, and even though we don't advertise to kids, teens or tweens, our skincare is still perfect for them!

The most important thing we would recommend is for young skin to be very gentle with it. Even when the dreaded pimples surface, you don't need harsh, drying cleansers to get rid of them.

That can actually cause young hormonal skin to overreact and produce more oil, causing more pimples.  The best thing to do would be to try out our sample packs to see which products feel right.  Please remember to take it easy with the Pig In Mud Mineral Mask and only apply it for a couple of minutes to start with, particularly if you're using the stronger mask for oily/combination skin. You can even soften the mask's drawing powers by mixing it with yogurt instead of water. Then you have to resist the temptation not to lick your lips!

Have you seen our Clear & Calm Sample Pack? It has all of our best products for young hormonal skin and is a great place to start.  These products are all gentle and easy to use, perfect for young skin.

Free From

Yes, our products are gluten free.

Additionally we would love to take this opportunity to let you know we've done some work with the Coeliac society of Australia and their research shows that gluten in skincare isn't an issue for people with dietary concerns as the gluten can't be absorbed into the digestive system via your skin.

But either way you're safe with us :)

We sure do!

In fact the majority of our leave on products are Essential Oil Free :)

We sure do!!

We do not use ANY synthetic fragrances in our creations but if you have a keen sense of smell and would prefer not to smell your products.  We do have a selection of the most neutral in our range. You may smell only a very, very subtle hint of some of the luscious ingredients in the formula:)

Click here to jump straight to our Fragrance Free Collection.

*If you don't mind some fragrance but just need to steer clear of Essential Oils, please see our Essential Oil Free FAQ. As we do have products that may have a naturally strong or herbaceous scent or that are scented with Natural Food Flavours.

We do try to minimise our use of palm oil but we do have some products that still use it, mostly in "functional" ingredients like emulsifiers.

As more palm-free ingredients become available to vegan, natural manufacturers, we are slowly moving away from Palm Oil and that's very exciting :)

Jump to our Palm Oil Free Products.

We have many nut free Skin and Body Care products.

Click here to jump to our Nut free Collection

We do have a few products containing Shea Butter in our Skin and Body Care range.

You may just want a dose of Shea goodness,  but as this may also be a tricky ingredient for people who have a Shea or even Latex allergy (as these are closely related)  Click Here for products that Contain Shea Butter

We promise that you will not find ANY these shady characters in a Woohoo Body product:

  • mineral oils
  • parabens
  • sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)
  • sodium laureth sulphate (SLES)
  • ... in fact, ALL sulphates are out!
  • synthetic fragrances
  • animal derivatives
  • ingredients tested on animals
  • artificial colours
  • bleaches e.g. benzoyl peroxide
  • aluminium salts
  • propylene glycol
  • triclosan
  • harsh detergents
  • triethanolamine (TEA)
  • ... and the list goes on!

Brand and Packaging

Thank you so much for asking 😁

When choosing a type of packaging many factors come into play, the weight, environmental impact, usability and so on.

One main reason for the switch to Aluminium for tins, bottles and tubes is because, unlike plastic - aluminium has the unique ability to be Infinitely Recycled!

Recycling aluminium saves 90% more energy than sourcing new aluminium. It can be back on a shelf in recycled form in as little as 60 days. It’s also lighter to ship, which means fewer carbon emissions and a huge win for our planet.

These are some of the reasons for the switch in packaging to house the Woohoo goodies that aren't suited to cardboard (our first preference in packaging materials!).

You may shop with confidence and peace of mind, as our aluminium tubes, tins and bottles are coated in a BPA-free resin to protect the product and you 😊

Storage and Shelf Life

Our deodorants have quite a long shelf life and will be fine unopened for 2 years as long as you keep them in a cool, dry place below 25°c

(They have been tested to 2yrs, however as they are a waterless product - when they are kept in the right conditions they will last longer)

Once opened we would suggest to use within 12 months.

Ingredients

Good news! We can confirm that bicarb does NOT contain aluminium.

It's actually a bit of a rumour (or clever marketing!).

Here's a great blog article if you'd like to learn more 👍

No way, Jose! Our zinc is non-nano.

This means that the particles are bigger (micron size), rather than nano size, so you don't need to be concerned about the potential health risks linked to nanoparticles.

There are concerns around some types of silica as a potential carcinogenic,  but we don't use that type of silica here at Woohoo HQ 😊. The silica we use is safe to apply to your skin.

A quick science lesson! There are two types of Silica:

  1. Non-crystalline (amorphous) - found in plants - this is the kind we use
  2. Crystalline forms (quartz) - found in rocks or as grains of sand - this is the kind to avoid
Both types of silica are found in nature and can also be produced synthetically.

Crystalline silica (quartz) is the form of silica that is certainly a cause for concern. It is the type of Silica that is a health hazard and is believed by many to be carcinogenic in dust form when inhaled. It is not dangerous applied topically the skin in an emulsion.

Here at Woohoo we choose to use amorphous silica. It has a different structure to crystalline silica at the atomic level (physically) but also in its toxicological properties. There are no hazards associated with amorphous silica, and it is safe to use in topical products. It will stay on the surface of the skin and will not penetrate the skin. We use a nature-identical, synthetic form of amorphous silica to ensure its purity.

YES it is OK to use a bicarb soda deodorant, but only if it has been carefully formulated to have a lower pH like Woohoo.

We've carefully balanced the pH so it's not too alkaline but it still busts odour with the best of them.

It is possible your skin may react if you are using too much, have not properly cleaned away previous applications or have other external irritants like clothing rubbing on the area.

It’s also good to remember your pits occasionally need some moisturising just like the rest of your skin :-)

If you are extremely sensitive, which does happen for some, we do have Bicarb free Woohoo too!

Here at Woohoo we use all-natural ingredients to add fragrance to our creations, Essential oils are the most common way to do this,
However, our Surf Deodorant does not contain essential-oils! Which is great for those who can be sensitive to them, we have instead chosen to use Food Flavouring.

Yep, you read that correctly! Surf contains Food Flavour, It also smells good enough to eat - but please don't 😁

This Tropical Flavour is our supplier's proprietary blend, so we are unable to break it down further for you except to share that the potential allergens in the tropical food flavouring are;
Citral
Geraniol
D-Limonene

The specific plant that those allergens are derived from is unknown, and can vary from time-to-time depending on availability.
An example is the compound Limonene, which can be found in Eucalyptus as well as nearly every citrus fruit.

Deodorants

Choosing your deodorant

Yes!

Woohoo deodorants have what it takes to take on even the toughest of BO, and can handle extreme amounts of sweating.

Our deodorants have been road-tested in some very extreme conditions -  by endurance athletes, firefighters, tradies - and have proven themselves time and time again.

Our Woohoo natural deodorants suit everyone, and anyone can use any of our scents.

We do find though that men often tend to gravitate towards our Extra Strength formulas, Wild and Tux (or Surf and Mellow for sensitive skin) :)

We have 7 scents, and each one is special in its own way (e.g. some are Extra Strength, and some are Bicarb Free).

We've got a handy little comparison chart here!

Or jump across to our Deodorant Quiz to help you choose a scent that ticks all your boxes.

Our Extra Strength deodorants have been formulated to include the most active deodorising ingredients (including bicarb soda). They're also scented with essential oil blends that are most powerful when it comes to neutralising body odour.

Our Regular Strength deodorants have less bicarb soda in them than our Extra Strength formulas. The essential oil blends that we use to add scent are also a little milder / softer.

Our Sensitive deodorants are bicarb free - instead they use a different balance of deodorisers including magnesium.

Insider tip: Just because you sweat, it doesn't mean you need an Extra Strength deodorant. In fact, all of our deodorants will blend differently with your unique body chemistry, so you may even find that a Regular strength deodorant will work better than an Extra strength deodorant. To give all our scents a try, check out our sample pack.

The formulas for our Woohoo deodorant sticks are quite different to our deodorant pastes, and they're applied differently too!

Our deodorant and anti-chafe sticks have a 'hands-off' application style and don't require you to get deodorant on your fingers. You swipe the stick directly onto your armpit and other sweat-and-chafe-prone areas. They have a waxy, firm texture (they need to have this so they don't break).

Our original pastes have a softer, more buttery texture than the sticks. You apply them with your fingertips, the paste melting on contact with your skin to become creamy.

Despite their different textures, both the sticks and pastes use the same deodorising ingredients so you’ll see the same incredible BO-busting results whichever style you go for.

And of course, All Woohoo deodorants  - WILD, TUX, POP, TANGO, URBAN, SURF and MELLOW -  are available across both sticks and pastes

You sure can :)

Our Bicarb-Free options (Mellow & Tango) may be the safest place to start for super sensitive skin, and those who are sensitive to bicarb soda (a common deodoriser in natural deodorants).

Many people with sensitive skin find they're also able to use our regular strength bicarb-based deodorants, Urban and Surf. These regular strength formulas have less bicarb soda than our extra strength options and are filled with skin-protecting and moisturising ingredients to keep irritation at bay.

Please do remember that a little bit goes a long way, and to wash your deodorant off each day when you bathe/shower so your armpits get some deodorant-free time.

Yes!! Our Mellow (Yellow) and Tango (Orange) scents are bicarb free!

Learn more: Bicarb vs Bicarb Free Deodorant.

Absolutely!!

It's completely safe for your growing children to use Woohoo Natural Deodorants.

You might need to keep an eye on younger kids to make sure they're not using too much though, and don't let them forget to wash under their arms daily so they don't get any build-up of deodorant.

You can choose from 2 types of packaging for your Woohoo deodorants, and it's all plastic free and 100% recyclable in your kerbside recycling bin!

Our All Natural Woohoo Deodorant Pastes (both 60g sizes and 10g samples) are packaged in aluminium tins and are infinitely recyclable.

Our Woohoo Deodorant and Anti-Chafe Sticks are packaged in recyclable/biodegradable FSC (Forest Stewardship Council Certified) cardboard tubes 😁.

Even though our cardboard tubes are recyclable, many people skip the recycling bin and pop their tubes straight into their home compost. 🌿

Getting Started with Woohoo Deodorant

Yes you certainly can😊

Apply just the same way you do under your arms. You'll find it helps big-time with chafing and rubbing too, for under breasts & thighs.

If you suffer from smelly feet you can apply the Woohoo on your feet too,

Please remember the anti-chafe properties might make the soles of your feet a little slippery so don't dive into your thongs and hit the dance floor right after applying.

Yes Absolutely!

Just rub it in really well to make sure it is applied to the skin where it can get to work.

All you need is a teensy-weensy smidgen of our Natural Deodorant Paste, no bigger than a humble pea, or for our Natural Deodorant Sticks, a swift “one-two-three” swipe per arm.

Yup, you read that right. It’s not like scoring runs in cricket - more isn't always better!

Using too much can actually make your deodorant LESS effective, and can increase your chances of marking your clothing.

Our super-concentrated, all natural deodorant formulas work wonders with just a small amount, and you’ll still be smelling fresh at the end of the day.

Plus, the less you use, the longer it lasts! Up to 6 months, in fact.

That means less orders, less deliveries, and a lighter carbon footprint.

No, Woohoo Deodorants are not an Antiperspirant :)

Deodorants focus on stopping B.O. and don't change your body’s natural function of sweating.
Woohoo Deodorants work by using odour absorbing ingredients like bicarb soda, arrowroot powder, cornstarch or clay. These powders can soak up some wetness, and we have anti bacterial oils that not only smell amazing but keep the smelly bacteria at bay.

An Antiperspirant changes the way your body works. They use aluminium to act as plug to stop the sweat, and are largely chemical based products. Over the years a few questions have been raised regarding the safety of these types of products.

Firstly - congrats on ditching your anti-perspirant, a brilliant move!

If you’re used to using an antiperspirant, please remember that this isn’t one! The Woohoo deodorant works by neutralising odour and keeps you dryer by absorbing moisture, but it DOESN’T block your pores with aluminium to stop you from sweating.

Some people have no adjustment period, others 4 days to a week. The longest we have had is 4 weeks though after a week if it is still not lasting all day you might need to change to a different flavour. Different essential oils work better for some people, so our sample pack is a great way to test them out !

It is important to note that Woohoo shouldn’t be marking your clothes at all..

But, sometimes if we use a little too much product or don't rub it in enough we may be left with white marks or an oil-type stain. If the marks are more yellow it's sweat staining the fabric.

If your stains are of the oily kind then a little scrub with a teeny bit of dishwashing liquid before you pop your clothes into the washing machine works a treat!

Our Laundry tips for dealing with other pesky stains can be found HERE.

Clean dry skin is best, so just after your shower is great.

But there is no hard rule - You can apply right after your evening or morning shower or you might decide if you shower in the evening that you don't need your Woohoo at night and apply in the morning!

You could have a very energetic job or lifestyle and need a couple of showers and reapply after those. Woohoo can fit into your routine however you like :-)

We don't have many people report it to us, but it can happen,

We believe the issue is caused by the fact that natural deodorants create an alkaline environment under your armpit, and the alkalinity causes discolouration. This seems to be more pronounced when using formulas that contain bicarb soda.

Even though we do lower the pH our Deodorant is still alkaline overall. We also use a combination of 4 different deodorant ingredients so we can use less Bicarb.

This makes the chance of darkening a lot less but it is still possible.

If you are concerned you could try a magnesium-based deodorant like Mellow or Tango - it will still have an alkaline pH but we haven't heard of them darkening the skin.

Deodorant Sticks

Push up from the base to expose 1-2mm of deodorant, which is all you really need to last you a few applications before you need to push again. This small amount makes it much easier to pop the lid back on without wastage.

A little bit goes a long way, so just swipe gently under your arms for all day protection from body odour.

Want to see how it's done? Click here watch a video with our top tips for pushing up your Woohoo deodorant stick.

Using the last little bit of deodorant at the end of your Woohoo stick can be tricky but there's an easy solution.

All you have to do is push that little nugget all the way out, peel off and dispose of the cardboard base and press it on top of a new woohoo stick.  Voila no waste!!(Easier when you haven’t pushed the new stick up yet & in cooler temps you may like to add a little warmth from your hands to soften each part to get them to mould together a bit )

Otherwise you can pop it into one of our sample tins and use it paste-style ;)

The Woohoo sticks will protect you from body odour all day (and then some). It’s totally normal to be able to feel the deodorant present under your arms after a long day when you hop in the shower. It’s a good idea to wash it off thoroughly with soap, washer and warm water to avoid build-up.

Woohoo Sticks are super economical too.  A stick will last you around 3 months perhaps longer  -  as long as it doesn’t get stolen by a family member first! this DOES happen, more often than you would think ;)

When you're using your stick for the first time it can be a little tricky to push up because the ingredients are a bit stuck to the tube.

So the very first time you push it up it does require a bit more effort, but after that it will slide up and down in its tube easily.

If your stick is stuck OR you’ve pushed it up too far please don’t panic! Click here to watch this little video and see how to release your stuck stick😁.

Please don't worry, this is nothing to be concerned about.

During the rapid cooling process a little air bubble traveling up through the molten formula can cause a small hole to appear in your deodorant.  Your stick will still work exactly the same.

And since we check the weight of every single deodorant to make sure you get all 60 grams you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything :)

Cardboard and liquids are not best friends so it is better to keep them apart as much as possible, perhaps in the cupboard or cabinet rather than out in the open if you are planning a lovely sauna.... Uhmm, sorry I meant shower.

There's some small potential for warping of the cap or base or even some colour transference if it gets wet, so if your new Woohoo is mistaken for a bath toy by one of the children perhaps just put it in a dry safe place until it recovers.

These deodorants will stay reasonably firm in higher temperatures up to 45 degrees, but please don't leave them in your car as they can melt and *may* leak.

Deodorant Pastes

It's dead easy :) With clean, dry hands use the tip of your index finger collect to a pea sized amount of deodorant and warm it in your fingertips.

Rub half of it under your arm until it disappears (just like you would a moisturiser) and repeat on the other armpit.

The most fuss-free way to get your Woohoo out is with clean, dry fingers.

If you've got long fingernails, you might want to use a teaspoon or bamboo spatula and keep it handy in the bathroom!

That's a great question!

Bacteria require water in order to survive, and Woohoo is a completely waterless product.

That's part of the beauty of it - it doesn't even require preservatives since there's nothing for bacteria to feed on.

We love Summer! However, while the heat makes some loopy, it can also make Woohoo go a little lumpy. It’s a perfectly natural thing that shea butter can do.

When we make Woohoo, the shea butter is melted, everything is mixed and homogenised.

We then cool them down as fast as we can.  Unfortunately when the outside temperature is above 35 degrees, the shea butter warms back up again which can let the little balls start to form. They’re more noticeable (or notice-a-ball LOL) when there are clays and powders to grab onto. So if you have a Woohoo that has some little lumps or feels grainy, it has gotten over warm,  then cooled back down slowly.

It’s nothing to worry about as the lumps easily dissolve when rubbed between your fingers. Your Woohoo has not been damaged or gone off, so there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Phew ;)

If one day you do find you have a lumpy Woohoo and you’re not 100% happy with it, just get in touch with us at [email protected] and we’ll look after you :)

Getting Started with Woohoo Skincare

Sensitive or Reactive Skin

Yes, our products are very suitable for sensitive skin.

We'd recommend starting with one of our deodorant or facial Sample Packs!

Our top pick would be the TLC intensive Repair Oil, Dilo Oil, Fairy Godmother Serum #3 and the Over the Moon Rich Repair Cream

We completely understand that search for suitable products can be quite expensive when you have ultra-sensitive skin! We've heard way too many stories of people spending a small fortune on products before they finally discovered our creations.

If you want to try them and see if it works for your sensitive skin too, we recommend starting with a sample pack The Hydrate and Nourish - Deluxe Calming pack.

We've done everything we can to make them amazing value. They are more like travel mini's than samples as the products last about 2 weeks.

Skin Concerns

Blackheads occur when the pores in the skin become plugged with dead skin cells and an oily, protective substance known as sebum. When these pores are plugged, the dead skin cells in the open pore react with oxygen in the air and turn black, forming a blackhead.

A fab cleansing routine with the right products will help balance, draw and heal and reduce the appearance of these blemishes. Use your favourite cleanser and add in some extra’s including a Mask 1-2 times per week to keep those blackheads at bay.

A great place to start is our Deluxe Clear and Calm Sample Pack

Whilst pores don't in fact open and close like doors, You can definitely make them appear smaller by keeping them clean.

A good 3 Step cleansing routine will help.

Another nifty tip is the Pig in Mud Mineral Mask or Enzyme Exfoliating Mask,  When used 1 - 2 times per week will help to smooth, tone, refine and revitalise the skin.

Milia are one of those skin concerns that can be a bit mysterious (and frustrating).
The Milia are formed usually because the pore has produced too much keratin and it gets trapped under the skin, or dead skin cells get trapped under new skin.
Left to their own devices, the milia will eventually work their way to your skin's surface but this can take years (literally!). And this process slows down as we age because skin cell turnover slows.
We like the analogy that Milia is like a pearl. A little white bump that starts deep down, and eventually comes to the surface. You can wait for it to come to the surface, you can dig it out (not recommended unless you're an expert!), or you can gently exfoliate the area.

We have 2 types of exfoliators - a "physical" one 'Spoonful of Sugar' Exfoliating Scrub, and a "chemical" one 'This Is Me' Enzyme Exfoliating Mask.
You might get the best results using a combination of both, but choosing one or the other is perfectly fine.

In terms of preventing more milia, the best thing to do is keep up regular gentle exfoliation a couple of times per week, and also review which products you're using in that area especially any products that may be a little too heavy for your skin.
For example, a heavy cream or balm might not be the best choice for your forehead if that's where you're dealing with the milia.
